Parenting is tough during the best of times and is particularly tough during challenging times. Parents often find themselves feeling confused and alone, but you don’t have to do it alone! Parenting in Progress (PIP) is an online support group for parents as they navigate the challenges of parentingParents will share frustrations and celebrate successes while learning and practicing how to apply parenting skills to their individual family.

The group meets virtually every Tuesday from 5:30-6:30.

Who leads Parenting in Progress?

Our PIP group is led by Lauren Garfield, LMFT. Mrs. Garfield is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Round Rock, Texas specializing in supporting children, teens, and their families as they cope with anxiety, OCD, mood disorders, and everyday parenting challenges. 

What is the cost of Parenting in Progress?

The cost of participation is $60 per session, which is billed at a monthly rate of $240.

Who is a good fit for Parenting in Progress?

PIP is ideal for parents in our local Austin community as well as parents from across the state of Texas who are looking for support and parenting tips as they navigate the unique challenges associated with raising children. 

How many other parents will be in the support group?

Our PIP group will be capped at 8-10 parents to ensure that each parent receives individual attention, support, and feedback.

I’ve never attended a support group and I’m feeling nervous. What can I expect?

After you have enrolled in PIP you will be emailed a link to our secure client portal where you will complete a questionnaire, so Mrs. Garfield can learn about you and your family as well as what you hope to gain from the group. You will also receive some consent forms to review and sign that outline are commitment to you and details regarding confidentiality, payment, group therapy, etc. After reviewing your responses, Mrs. Garfield will reach out via phone to introduce herself, spend a few minutes getting to know you, and answer any questions you may have. You will then receive a link to join the online support group. At 5:30 on Tuesday you will simply click on the link to join the session. During the first session, Mrs. Garfield will spend a few minutes reviewing group policies to ensure that everyone feels safe in the group and has the best possible experience. Discussion topics will be tailored to meet the needs of group members; however, possible focal points may include: balancing the many roles that parents juggle, addressing problematic behaviors, techniques for improving communication, etc.

How long does the group last?

The group will meet for one hour per week. It is an on-going group, which means you can join at any time and group members are expected to attend sessions regularly both for their own benefit and the benefit of others in the group. Most group members will stay in the group for several months. Each group member will leave the group once their individual needs have been met and new group members will join over time.
